Changing Jobs SOC code and timeframe

Post by MPRJC » Tue Aug 25, 2015 9:43 am

Hello,

I am on a tier 2 general visa sponsored and work in marketing. I have been offered a new job at a different company doing a pretty similar role but on more money and with slightly different duties. My new job have asked for my SOC code, does anyone know how I could find this without asking my current employers? I know I should have it myself but my office handled the whole application for me.

I was also wondering if anyone else has done this? How long did it take for the new company to get sponsored and what potential obstacles I might face.

Really I would like to get a spousal visa with my girlfriend but we haven't 'officially' been living together for 2 years even though we have in real terms.

I would be hugely grateful to anyone for any advice on this. The info is surprisingly hard to find in this internet age!

Perhaps a Subject Access Request will help in finding out the SOC code used for the previous application.
But does take a long time.

That said, why does your prospective employer need your current SOC code? Why can't your employer choose an SOC code that best suits your prospective job responsibilities?

Thanks so much for that. To be honest I don't know why either I'm trying to educate myself as I go on this process and so is my new (hopefully) employer. I was thinking of ringing up the visa office. Do you think they would tell me poverty the phone?

I thought I could only move to a job with the same job code? Is this not the case?

Thanks again for help and sorry for my naivety, I have looked through a lot of forums but can't find quite the right info.

1. I don't think UKV&I helpline will provide you with that kind of information.
2. No. No.
3. Between you an your prospective employer, come to an agreement as to which SOC code best suits the job requirements. Your prospective employer should then conduct RLMT for that SOC, and then apply for a CoS.
