Birth and marriage certificates for ILR

Post by capricorn22 » Fri Nov 02, 2007 10:38 pm

Hello,

I am applying for ILR in less than 3 weeks in person as a work permit holder and I've come across a box on the application form's checklist about birth certificates. I would like to ask someone who's already gone through the interview:

1) do I need to bring my and my wife's birth certificates to the office (my wife is my dependent)?

2) does my daughter need to have her birth certificate if she applies for ILR with me but, as she is over 18, she fills in a separate application form (she has her own passport)?

3) obviously I will need to have a marriage certificate. Is it really important to have a translation which is notarised at the Embassy only or, in fact, it can be translated and notarised anywhere else in the country of origin?

Thank you.

If your wife is applying as your dependent then you don't need to have the birth certificate if she has a passport, but it will do no harm.

The certificate must have a translation; this can be completed by an authorised translator in the UK or elsewhere.

Your daughter should supply her birth certificate.

The certificate must have a translation
Assuming it is not in English, of course!

Looking at the OP's question 3, I think we can assume that it's not!

Thank you, Victoria and John.

My documents are not in English and I have already arranged for their translation.

But I am still surprised that marriage certificate is not on the list of mandatory documents for work permit holders. Don't they need a proof that I accually married my wife? Ok, we have the same surname in our passports, but what if we had different ones?

The simple fact is that there is no comprehensive list of documents, as everyone's case is different.
