Forgot to register the new passport with police

Hello all,

I am holding Tier 2 Visa with my wife (Dependant). We are about to extend our Tier 2 Visa for another 3 years. However I now realised that my wife's new passport hasn't been registered with police. It was renewed 11 months ago but we forgot to register with the police. As the police registration certificate is one of the mandatory documents when applying for Tier 2 Extension Visa, could this make any problem in approving our Tier 2 extension application?

Do u really have to register with police? I just recently applied to extend my wife's tier 2 but never found any information about this police certificate? What is this?

We registered with the police today and the guy said he's made a note on their system, but next time if this happens again they will report the delay and bad things happen. He didn't make any "Late" warning on the police reg certificate.

I am still anxious about approval of my Tier 2 extension. I will apply late this week.

I appreciate if anyone could answer my question. Could a late police registration lead to Tier 2 extension refusal?

Something similar happened to a friend, except she left almost 15 months before registering her passport, and only did it because she only found out there was something called Police Certificate when she wanted to switch her visa from student Tier 4 to Tier 2. Otherwise she would have never known she had to do it at all. Apparently she never read the notice you are given with your first UK visa, telling you to register.

The advice she got from her solicitor was to register as soon as possible, and she was of course told off by the police agent, but they registered her passport nonetheless. In the end she got her Tier 2 visa, with no problems. Maybe if this happens once there is no problem and it is easy to present as a honest mistake. You might be in trouble if you make the mistake more than once, as is less likely to be a "mistake".
