Hi
Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong section. My head is spinning from the amount of websites I've viewed for information so far today.
OK, my issue is this: my girlfriend (Romanian) moved over to the UK at the beginning of December with me (UK national). She is 5 months pregnant, and she actually became my wife last month. Now, the problem is the changing of her name. I checked the Romanian embassy website but it was difficult to find anything, so we phoned them, and their advice was "Look on the website". Not very helpful! As a Romanian national, she has a national ID card. From what I can see, we need to get her a new national ID in her new name before we can get her new passport. However, we firstly need to take our marriage certificate and two copies for legislation, then they need to be translated and legislated again, then we need to do the same with our birth certificates, and then we can apply for the national ID (which apparently takes a minimum of 90 days) and then we can apply for her passport. Is this right? Does anyone have any information? It seems overly complicated (not to mention ridiculously expensive) for just a simple change of surname. Also, she doesn't have a NI number here yet, but this will be necessary for child benefit and for future employment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
