Police Registration Certificate - Late Update

Post by complete_unknown » Thu Apr 23, 2015 11:03 am

Hi everyone!
As some of you guys may already know, UKBA has a police registration requirement for certain nationalities, and this rule applies to me as well. The law says that I must register after my arrival to the UK and inform the police about any changes within 7 days.
I registered in time (it was in 2013), but now I will be able to inform my local Police office about some important changes (new visa and address) only 5 months later. Have you ever been in this kind of situation? Can this delay lead to any negative consequences (i.e. a note in certificate, a fine, further problems with new visas/ILR)? Or is it just a formal requirement and they will simply update my details? Cheers!

It totally depends on the police / visa officer.

I know a few people who didnt report the address for years and nothing happened, they even extended their visas a few times without issues. However, as an example, when I was extending my visa using premium service the first thing they asked was my police registration certificate and they checked it so it all depends.

Back in 2011 one of my friends reported his job on day 10 and police officer marked that entry in his certificate as "late reply", but nothing else happened. He changed that certificate over the time as it was full and got a new one and no problems at all. I know this first hand because he was telling me this and asking what I think about this.

I also heard a few times that it is always better to go to to the main center near London Bridge rather than your local police station as local police might not know all this specifics and consider this as more serious mistake as it is. Thats what I heard.

So it all depends. I personally would go to met office near London Bridge and update the details if I were in the same situation.

ah, so it only matters when you go to extend or get a new visa. I thought the police station is actually reporting this directly to the Home Office which may make them revoke my visa. The moron in the office said that "if this happens again, your visa will be revoked" so I got a bit serious.

For anyone reading this: Don't go to Limehouse Police Station if you are later for registering. However, the first time I went there, it was a nice woman and there was no problem. This time it was an Indian fat officer who was very unpleasant and gave me the warning.

Well they probably meant that they will forgive you this time but will take an action next time because it clearly says that you have to report it within X days. Law is law, there is nothing we can do but obey it. They know it's not a big deal or major crime that's why they closed their eyes this time and gave you a warning instead.

Even if they decide to proceed with this they will just prosecute you and once you will extend your visa the home office will see that you have a criminal record and this will affect your visa extension.
