Divorce + Tier 2 General Partner

Post by edyy217 » Mon Oct 12, 2015 9:01 pm

Hi All,

i was hoping if someone can guide me on the issue of Divorce and immigration.

Basically my ex wife was granted Tier 2 partner visa in May 2015.

While she was still in Pakistan Our relationship took a turn for the worse and I filed for Divorce in Pakistan on 15th June 2015.

Before i had the chance to inform UKBA of our relationship breakdown, my ex basically traveled to UK on my dependent Visa without my knowledge on 19th June 2015.

on 21 June 2015 I informed UKBA of our relationship breakdown. My ex stayed in UK with some relatives in UK she didn't live with me neither did i know her address in UK. She stayed in UK for a month and then went back to Pakistan.

On 15th August 2015 i was granted ILR and on 20th Sept 2015 a final absolute decree of divorce was issued in Pakistan.

I consulted a solicitor regarding divorce and immigration and i was advised i ONLY need to file a divorce in Pakistan as the other party is not resident in UK. Can someone please advise if this is true?.
Do i also need to file a divorce in UK???
or shall i just send a copy of absolute decree of divorce issued by Pakistan authorities to UKBA would that be sufficient.

Please advise

The Pakistani Divorce appears valid, as you were advised.
