Tier 2 (General) Work Visa Maintenance funds

Post by Lazarde » Wed Oct 14, 2015 9:32 pm

Hi Everyone,

I am applying for a 3 year Tier 2 General visa. My sponsor is a fully approved 'A-rated' sponsor and is paying for 14 nights accommodation for the first month. I currently do have +945 GBP savings but I keep it in an investment fund which can be easily transferred to my bank account. Would this be sufficient for proving my maintenance or would I need to transfer the money to my current bank account and retain it for 90 days before I can apply for my visa?

Thank you!

if you can show the statement of that account, then it should be fine. (is it like a savings account?)

did your sponsor ticked 'yes' on the cos to maintain your first month if needed? this is irrespective of them giving accommodation for first 14 days. check with them, if they did check it on cos, then u dont need to show the money in your account.

Thank you @iworker! That is helpful. It is more of a fixed deposit account that I've been saving funds over the years. To transfer the funds into my savings account takes a day. If I can get a hold of that statement from my broker would that be sufficient proof?

it will not be useful to trasnfer it to a savings as you need a statement for 90 days min.
Bes tto check with employer if they checked for confirming your maintenance and in meantime, ask for bank to issue a statement and maybe a letter saying that this fix deposit is available at all times and not like blocked for sometime.

This is the feedback I got from the immigration team at my sponsor so I hope it helps everyone as well:

As the sponsor of the Visa there is no requirement for them to have a minimum level of funds in their account, as the sponsorship certificate allows them to bypass this. This would only be required if candidates were applying for a Visa of their own accord without support from a firm.

So long and short – in this instance you would not need to provide bank statements for maintenance.
