OCI Application query

Post by raykau » Sun Nov 08, 2015 12:51 pm

Hello I am confused about the following and would be grateful if someone can advise as to how to go about it.

My wife has just got her naturalisation and had submitted a deed pole to change her surname. I understand that there has been instances where application for British Passport has run into issues where the maiden surname in the original passport is different from the new passport intended name. So was trying to cancel the Indian Passport but saw the following point in the documents required.

Self-attested photocopy of the current British / Foreign Passport( Only the photo page*)

Has someone gone through this issue and if yes, how to overcome the problem.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Hi,

For your British Passport

If your wife changes her maiden surname to married name then you do not need a deep poll. You just have to send a copy of your marriage certificate showing your surname. It will be accepted - This is what we did.

If you have already done a deed poll then send a copy of that along with any application with the new surname and it will be accepted.

You can then surrender your Indian passport using the new surname as it appears on the British passport along with a copy of marriage certificate / Deed Poll. You will be issued a surrender certificate with the new surname.

Hope this clears your confusion.

BTW there is no connection to OCI in this post and was wondering why the title?

Kind Regards,
