FLR: Combining employed and self employed income of both par

Post by concerneddad » Sat Nov 14, 2015 1:30 pm

Hope someone can offer some guidance here, please.

My Son in laws initial leave to remain expires on May 19 2016.

We are intending to apply for FLR on May 1St 2016 approximately.

To meet the income requirements we will have the following :

- His wife's previous 6 months pay, which equates to 8000 p.a.
- His self employed income which will be approximately 12000. This will be for tax year 2015 to 2016. We will do his tax return and accounts in April, just before the application.

1. Is combining employed and self employed income like this fine? I.e. 6 months employment and 12 months self employed, across both partners?

2. If applying in May 2016, self employed income will need to be shown for tax year 2015 to 2016?

Any other gotchas I should be aware of?

Many thanks.

Your son-in-law's self-employed income will be calculated on the nett amount after allowable business expenses have been deducted. i.e the amount on which HMRC will calculate tax due. Is his estimated £12,000 before or after business expenses have been deducted?
Both incomes will qualify.

12k will be after expenses etc. but before ni and tax.

Are my dates correct, I. E. Applying in may 2016 will require self employment income for 2015-2016? And that can be combined with 6 months employment income of his wife?

Many thanks.

i am in similar situation. please help me with my questions below

My wife income is 15000 per annum and she started working on nov 1st 2015. Her present leave to remain expires on 4rth may 2016 so I have to apply for her flr m before this date.

By then she will have worked for six month (nov 2015 to april 2016) and her income would be 7500 (15000/2)

Now I am a contractor for NHS (registered as sole trader) and started working in july 2015 and my current contract is till the end of march 2016 (might extend for another 3 months)

Can I show my wife income of 7500 along with the amount earned from my work at nhs (that will equal to 15000 after tax)?

Please advise

Thanks
