A family member of an EU citizen seeking to move to the UK.

Dear All,

It is my first time here and I am really happy to find out that such serious forums really exist online!!

Anyway, Let me make this as short as possible

I am an Egyptian national, married to a Maltese citizen for a year and 7 months now (I don't think my job really matters, but anyway, I work as legal translator in Malta since the date of our marriage) - I also have to mention that I enjoy freedom of movement in Malta since the same date.

My wife and I recently decided to move to the UK.

As far as we know (also after checking the European union offcial website) .. My wife - as a Maltese national - enjoys a full freedom of movement in the UK (PS. only Malta and cyprus, from all the 10 new member states which entered the EU on 1st May 2004, enojy such right).

BUT .... and here comes my question:

WHAT ABOUT MYSELF?

Do I enjoy the same right? I know that I want have a total freedom of movement in the UK of course, but is it true that my wife can apply for a residnce permit for me to stay and work in the UK (I already know that she doesn't need to obtain a residence card for herself but it helps if she does).

But .. truthfully speaking, there are always those who think that it might not be that easy for an Egyptian , or that they have certain rules for Arabs and all of these weird lines we keep hearing everywhere.

Also, We hear that We have to be married for a certain number of years before she can apply for a residence permit for me (???)

So, would anybody kindly please inlight us with some solid info?

Thanks,

Belaly
