VFS doesn't (and may be cannot) check if you have uploaded images of supporting documents or whether you have uploaded images of the all the appropriate / required documents. That is entirely the applicant's responsibility! As per them, you can upload the images until close of business day of the date of application (that's the generic advice they are told to offer to applicants).
Create a PDF to include multiple images and upload it under the appropriate category!
e.g. - surrender certificate / old passport + old OCI booklet (in one PDF) can be uploaded under "Indian Origin Proof".
For someone applying for OCI first time after naturalisation, there is no option to upload "naturalisation certificate" which is one of the supporting documents required for new OCI applications. So people create a single PDF with British passport + naturalisation certificate images together and upload it under "current passport".
Life isn't fair, but you can be!
