HSMP - dependent mother

Post by dkhsmp » Thu Nov 29, 2007 11:58 pm

Hi,

I am currently in the US and want to apply for HSMP to move the UK; based on the age and earning potential, I am fairly confident I will get an approval for the HSMP.

My situation is that my widowed mother (who is currently staying with me on a visitor visa) is dependent on me since she has no one in India to live with. I have a sister in India, but she cannot stay with her. My mother does have some rental income in India though and therefore she will not be financially dependent on me. But she has severe arthiritis and therefore cannot live by herself.

My questions are as follows:
1. Can I apply for an EC for my mother as well (along with my spouse and kid) after I get the HSMP approval?
2. I have read the posts about the policies for parents and know that the only way she would get an EC is on compassionate grounds. Based on the above information, do you think my mother will get an EC if I file for her as a dependent?

Thanks in advance for your help.

No, there is no provision under the Immigration Rules for parents of HSMP holders.
I am not, and cannot, offer legal advice to particular people. I can only discuss general areas of immigration law.

People should always consider obtaining professional advice about their own particular circumstances.
