UK citizenship application for elderly mother who got ILE

Post by mrkhurana » Tue Jan 05, 2016 10:01 am

Moderators,

Need help regarding naturalization/UK passport of mother in UK. My mother is dependent on me and got ILE (Indefinite Leave to Enter) visa from India. She is 74 now. I am a British Passport holder.

Following are the visa details:
ILE Visa Issued on 14/Nov/2011
ILE visa valid till 20/Mar/2012
Entered UK on 30/Jan/2012

Based on the above information when can we apply for her UK passport? Any help will be appreciated.

Best Regards

She may naturalise from 30 January 2018 (assuming not being married to a British citizen). After grant, apply for British passport.

I was thinking that the qualifying day will be 30th January 2017.

At that time, she would have Held ILE for more than 12 months and have resided in the UK for 5 years.

Thanks Vinny and Obie for your prompt reply and help. Really appreciate the same.

I also found following links related to the qualification criterias:
1) lived in the UK for at least the 5 years. (https://www.gov.uk/becoming-a-british-c ... -can-apply)

2)Apply after 6 years in the UK.(http://www.immigrationboards.com/britis ... 95747.html)

Question:
So I am a bit confused again. Since she already got ILE (PR) and will complete 5 years on 30 Jan 2017 so as per Obie does she still be meeting the qualification criteria to apply on 30 Jan 2017?

Best regards

Obie is correct. 5 years as your mother already has ILE.

Many thanks Vinny and Obie for your help.
Could you please advice what is the best way in this case to apply for her naturalization:
1) by post
2) online
3) through agent

Is the process complicated or straight forward since she got the ILE?

Best regards

Should be straightforward. Recommend NCS, as they will photocopy her original documents, such as passport, so that she can keep them.
