2016 minimum income requirement to get ILR

Post by John Green » Wed Jan 06, 2016 9:24 pm

According to information, this year the UK government in its wisdom will require that all non-EU immigrants need to earn a minimum of £35,000 a year after 5 years living and working in the UK of face deportation. This seems to apply to those coming to the UK on general visa, for example to join husbands in the UK. Is there anywhere to find out more?

It seems to apply to those who get work soon after arriving in the UK, and not those non-EU immigrants who may take a year or more to find work (as it requires this income after 5 full years of working in the UK). Presumably, those who after 5 years living in the UK only worked for let's say 3 years out of the 5 are okay? Since they can say when they apply for ILR at 5 years they have not worked in the UK for the 5 years specified for this income threshold to kick in and be important?

And/or would their getting UK citizenship after 5 years not prevent their deportation after this 5 years period?

Where are people getting such "information" from? Source please ....

The new ewquirement is only applicable to Tier 2 (General/Sportperson) migrants applying for settlement on or after 06-Apr-2016, and no one else. And its been ages since this change was announced.

The vast majority of non-EU migrants don't enter without a job. :| (Your mention of this appears to have been deleted). However, this applies only to those on Tier 2 visas, which is a points based system.

Did you actually read the link I provided in my previous post? :|
