Went to apply for Extension of tier 2 uk visa?can I apply

Hi,
Hope you are doing well.
I am working in UK on tier 2 visa ,which is getting expired on 31/8/16.
Could you suggest me the time for application for an extension of visa.
Can I apply on 7 -10 days before the expiry of visa?
Since it's summer holiday time ,my child will be in India with her grandparents.In that case can I apply for an extension of visa with my child passport (without child being in uk).My wife is on dependent visa & can we both proceed to apply for the extension of visa without child being in UK.
Can I contact UKBA for the above ?
Could you kindly advise on this asap

1. You can apply for extension anyday of your choice between now and up until 23:59:59 hours of 31-Aug-2016.
2. No. Yes but only for yourself and your wife. Child will need to apply for EC from outside the UK if the child's current leave expires while the child is outside UK.
