Increase in annual income requirement?

Hi all, my Japanese fiance is living with me (British) in the UK on a partner visa. I found this article on The Independent that says that the current annual minimum requirement is £20,800 and it would be increased to £35,000 from April.

Does this affect us after a certain amount of time? My partner has only been on her visa for a year and so have a year and a half remaining. When we applied the requirement was £18,600 and looking at the HO website, it still is. I don't see where or who this ridiculous requirement applies to? Is it for those applying for ILR?

Any advice or info would be appreciated. Thanks!

That was intended for Tier 2 holders.

"The changes will be introduced for indefinite leave to remain applications under the Tier 2 (General) visa category, and the Tier 2 (Minister of Religion) and Tier 2 (Sportsperson) visa categories."

The clue should have been in the minimum annual earnings level. For a spouse this is currently £18,600, not £20,800
