british airports checking passports when leaving

i heard that the british airports have begun checking passports again for passengers leaving. does anyone know the details about this?

i took a flight out of heathrow last thursday and yes they were checking passports on the way out. don't know what they were looking for though, it seemed to be quite a cursory glance.

was your boarding card printed from home or office and you checked in electronically????

no, i did an olde fashioned checkin so had normal boarding pass. the did the usual at the checkin counter, then after security then looked at passport again.

I was checked as well, at more than one occasion. didn't ask any questions or anything. so don't know why. I thought it was normal

Yes, and people who never had a visa, and failed asylum seekers. They can add them all into the "removal" figures to make their stats look better.
