At some point in the future, my American girlfriend an I are going to get married in the US, and then we will apply for a marriage visa so she can live with me in the UK.
I read somewhere that in order to prove my spouse will not need to use public funds, I should ideally be earning more than the benefit rate for couples over 18 - so my disposable income, after tax, NI and housing costs, would need to be (at the moment) £92.80 a week or above.
If I was earning slightly less than that, would a marriage visa still be possible? We will have very healthy savings, enough to support us for a while, and my girlfriend has university qualifications and has been working for several years - I'm sure she wouldn't have much trouble finding a job here. Would this be enough to prove that we wouldn't need public funds?
Thanks very much!
