Spouse visa/Residence Card

Post by southerndb » Mon Feb 08, 2016 3:55 pm

Hi all,

I'm hoping for a little advice.

My wife (a non-EEA national) received her marriage visa last year. We're looking to go on holiday to spain next month, and on looking at the visa requirement it states that if my wife has a UK residence card and travels with me, we don't need to apply for a visa.

Is the card (biometric I think, but confirms her eligibility to work in the UK) she received after we got married & granted her visa a UK residence card, or is this something different? I'm a little confused as looking at the UKVI website the resident card is something we can get for £65, but seems to cover the same things her visa says.

And help/clarification would be much appreciated!!

Thanks,

Scott

Unless you are an EEA national (not British), your wife will require a Schengen visa. A Resident Card is a permit for family of an EEA national and different to the BRP issued to family under UK Regulations.

If you are a British citizen your wife will be operating under UK Immigration Regulations and have a UK BRP (id) card.
It is different from the EU imigration route and EEA residence cards issued to dependents of EEA nationals in UK.

Suggest play safe & shoot for a Schengen visa.
Bon voyage!

Unless you want to avail of the French Juxtaposed at Dover, and seek entry into Schengen from there, you will need a Schengen visa.
