Tier 2 General Change employer- Passport expiring soon

Dear All,

I got a new job so I need to switch my visa to new employer, my query here is "My passport is valid till July 2016 and I am planning to apply for visa by the end of February 2016, does my passport need to be valid for at least six months at the time of application or it would be fine if i apply visa without renewing my passport?"

Home office guidance does not cover such specific items. However, if you do a little search in this forum, you will find many cases where folks have successfully received their visas say for 2 years even when their passport expiry date was lesser than that (say 3-4 months). The duration of the visa depends on the COS and does not depend on the remaining validity period of the passport.

Another query related to the change of employer : "do I need to send visa application for my wife as well, our current leave to remain is valid till October 2017"
