Request passport to be returned sooner

Hi all,
Anyone has requested their passport to be returned earlier during the waiting time?
How to go about and is there any implication such as outright refusal for application process?
I sent in mine for extension purpose.

Note that if an applicant requests his/her passport for travel, then his/her application may be treated as withdrawn.
