Tier 2 ICT Short term extension clarification!!

Hello,

My employer has provided a CoS by for 5 months from 1st Dec 2015 to 30th April 2016.
So I was granted a visa for 6 months from 1/12/2015 to 30/05/2016.

Now my employer wants to extend till September.
In this case does cool off apply in short term ICT as I stayed in UK for more then 3 months?
If not, do have to re apply in long term ICT / Tier 2 General or is it possible to extend my existing short term ICT Visa itself by extending the CoS as the maximum stay allowed in Short term ICT is 1 year.

Kindly help me at the earliest.
