There is no such thing as an approved overstay period. There is a 28 day grace period post visa expiry which is primarily intended to allow departure from the UK or for an acceptable no right of appeal visa application to be made.
So if you are staying for a few days after the expiry no one jumps up and down
Get past the 28 days and things start to become complicated. After 28 days you become an overstayer and by default can be liable for detention if encountered by the Police or Immigration. You also fall into the trap of killing your good immigration history and that includes your dependants.
So the poster thinking of staying on beyond 28 days I am assuming your daughter is not intending to return to the UK within the next twelve months? As an overstayer the minimum ban is 12 months before an application will not have a mandatory refusal. And you will also blemish her entire immigration history going forward as she has to state she overstayed in the UK regardless of what country the visa is for. That is a big price to pay.
Options.... Apply for another visa type knowing it will be refused but by the time it is decided you may well have got to the end of the time you wish to remain. This is a high cost method as you will have to apply for the entire family members remaining plus the NHS surcharge.
You could see if your daughters school has a Tier 4 licence and that they can issue her wish a CAS. If she can live here on her own problem solved. I am assuming she is 18+ This is probably the best / cheapest option.
