British Citizenship --- Employment History

Post by SHAHZAD7861 » Mon Mar 28, 2016 3:31 pm

Dear All,

I am aiming to apply for naturalisation but would like to clarify on the question of employment history.

I was employed as well as registered as self employed In the last 10 years. Do i have to mention the self employment in the employment history?
Secondly, i have around £5000 tax outstanding with HMRC but i have made payment arrangements and paying gradually on the monthly basis. So my second question is that if i specify self employment in the last 10 years then i have to submit the statement of account which will reflect the same. Would it have any effect on my application.

You'll have to declare self-employment. They'll find out anyway when they carry out their cross-checks with HMRC.

My friend got his nationality in December 2015, in past he was self employed as well but in his application he only mentioned for his full time employment job only, he has been in uk for more than 10 years.

Form AN was updated in January 2016. You will see that SECTION 7 asks for
Evidence of tax for self-employed applicants only
The most recent HM Revenue & Customs Self Assessment Statement of Account

Any self-employment needs to be declared to enable checks with HMRC to confirm that tax due has been paid. Even more important to declare the self-employed earnings due to the arrangement with HMRC.

connection with this application may be used by them for the purpose of their statutory functions.

Thanks i thought so,
My second question was i have £5000 approx outstanding tax for the period between 2009-2015 but have made arrangements with HMRC and paying on monthly basis. My question is that can HO rejects the application on the basis that i have tax outstanding? I personally think that this should not be there concern as i am paying HMRC anyway but second opinion is what i am seeking on that.

There shouldn't be a problem as the payment plan has been agreed with HMRC. The issue would be if you withheld the information...as in the section I posted for you.
