Hi
Can anyone have access to Sab file? Does the HO think there is something wrong with this person's file. I lost my previosu Passport and don't remember the dates I was out of country- I am filling my ILR form. I thought if I request HO for SAB File- that will help me.So please advise me if I applly for this before I apply for ILR- wont make my life difficult. I am just bit panic as we see many applicants have been refused ILR.
Thanks

Everyone can apply for this and it will have no adverse effect on the application.

I sent a request letter including a £10 to access my SAB file yesterday. Unfortunately I forgot to mention the reason why I need this.
Shall I send another letter explaining why do I need this.?
This is the copy of my letter.

No, you don't need to say why you need it. It is none of their business.

Thanks Victoria for your advise, I am indebted to you for your help. I must send you XMas present. Do you work for workpermit.com?
By the way do you know how long it takes to get this report?
Thanks
Sam

They have 40 calendar days to send your file back and they won't be in any hurry.

Thanks for the reply, I dont understand why does it take 40 days for some printouts. How did you contact them? Is there nay phone/emal id please.
I need the info about my absences out of UK during these 5 years on WP, cos I lost my old passport.
Thanks

It's not just some printouts. They have to make a reasonable attempt to gather the data they hold about you from their various computerised systems and document archives. E.g. landing cards are stored in microfilm form in warehouses and I believe a pain to retrieve.
The home office also has to blank out the personal details of the various caseworkers and other persons in your file.

Not all landing cards are kept.
The only landing cards stored and microfiched
are controlled landings. So if you are for instance
a returning resident there will be no record of your
entries to the UK.

Hi all
I sent a request letter including £10 cheque to access my SAB file on 28/11 but still my account has not been credited. I sent the letter by normal post 1st class. I am just wondering how many days it takes to act on these kinds of application.
Thanks

Credited or debited?
They will debit your account only when they pick on your request.

Received a letter on 05/12 from BIA to confirm that they have received my request letter and £10 cheque. But I looked at my account, cheque has not been encashed. I am just wondering how long it takes for them to encash a cheque so they can look into my file.
Thanks

Hi Experts,
I rang the Data Protection Unit this morning to check the progress and asking specifically what I need from my SAB file, the number provided on the acknowledgement letter sent by BIA. The helpdesk agent said this number 0208760 3702 is wrong, I rang again same number just in case -and same lady picked up the phone and again same answer. And she hasn't got any number for Data Protection Unit.
I was confused so I rang General Enquiry 0870 606 7766 number, the helpdesk agent asked my HO reference and said Data Protection Unit dont speak to applicant, however he gave me option to send them fax. I double checked the fax number given by the agent to the number I had from DPU acknowledgement letter is 0208760 3394 Again it was a DIFFERENT NUMBER (the number given by the agent is 020 81963248). I am really confused. I found it to be very misleading and keeping applicants in dark.
Has anyone got the number please of DPU, so I can talk to them?
Thanks

The one on my letter is 02087603846, but it's about 1.5 years ago, don't know if its still a valid number.
Also, this number is for Subject Access Bureau, I don't know if them and DPU are the same departments.
