ILR question

Post by ci07jjs » Sat Dec 29, 2007 6:41 pm

Hi,

I came to the country in 1999 on a student visa and I am hoping to apply for ILR in 2009. My old passport is damaged, however the visa stamps are still reasonably visibile. Will this create a problem when I apply for ILR?

I understand from this forum that the HO only keep our records for 7 years - Is it best that I get a SAB request as a mean of extra evidence now to produce to the HO, as they may not have my records in future?

Thank you.

Are you still using the damaged the passport?
You dont need to use the SAB report to help the ho.

thanks for your reply.
No, I have a new passport, however some of my uk visas are stamped on the damaged/expired passport. The visas on the passport are reasonably visible (according to me!) - I am just concerned that HO might not be convinced with its clarity on the entry/exit dates in the future. This could create an opportunity for them to reject my ILR application.

The only reason that I thought of SAB is because I can use this as an evidence if any problem does arise in future. As my records could possibly be deleted from their computer system, all the evidence they would have is my old passport, which they may not be convinced with due its clarity. With SAB request, I would have some sort of proof to state that they held records about me in the past but just not present at the time of my application.

Am I being overly pre-cautious?

Thanks

Better to be overly cautious.

What kind of damage does the passport have?

If the stamps in your passport are unclear the benefit of the doubt will always be given to the applicant.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

The passport is shrinked and has dry watermarks on it - I mistakenly left my passport in my clothes and put them in a washing machine few years back. First entry stamp - "17 September 1999 Machester" and the subsequent two visa extension stamps are clear. However, the initial entry clearance which is attached as a sticker has watermark all over it. As the passport is mangled as a whole I am concerned the HO might raise any doubts over the genuinity of these visas, do u think ?!?!

I would appreciate if you would advice me on how you would deal with this situation to avoid any potential dis-appoinment in future.

Many thanks

Just don't wash your current passport.
I dont see any problems with the use of this passport to substantiate your application.
