IGS - point scheme

Post by ci07jjs » Thu Jan 17, 2008 6:36 pm

I hear the IGS scheme will be introduced under tier 1? is this true? The requirement to come under tier 1 is 75 points! does this mean post-graduate student should get 75 point to apply for IGS after march 2008?

here is where I got the news from:
http://www.workpermit.com/news/uk_immigration.htm

Many thanks

Ah...its clear now, it will be replaced by a sub-cateogry called post-study-work under tier 1. still require 75 points but had to be educated in the UK. but the new tier system doesn't mention any about ILR criteria for any categories? any ideas?

Someone on Dependent visa

Post by RAJ2007 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 1:32 pm

The link mentioned above (http://www.workpermit.com/news/uk_immigration.htm) says that when the new systen comes in, people on dependent visa, who has completed a degree in Uk would be eligible to apply for IGS. Is that right?
As I understand currently only students can apply for IGS.

Also I have recently completed AAT on dependent visa. Would it be considered as equivalent of a degree? I have seen that current rule says about degree, masters, phd, certificate, diploma. But it does not says about qualification which are equivalent to degree. Could anyone advice on this please?

I can't answer the first question.

For you second one, there is a link on there stating you should have graduated from home-office approved institution to be eligible for IGS.

Dependent

Post by RAJ2007 » Wed Jan 30, 2008 3:48 pm

I have two queries.

1. Under the new Post study work visa (due to come in Mar08) it says that any dependent can apply for this visa if they fulfill the criteria. But would that person have to go back to country of origin and apply for Post study work visa or someone on dependent visa could switch into this visa in-country?

2. I have completed AAT (ASSOCIATION OF ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN) from BPP Professional Education by Home study. Generally, in accountancy field AAT is considered equivalent to Bachelor's level. But in the post study work category it mentions about UK Bachelor's degree but not qualifiactions which are equivalent to Bachelor's degree. Do you think if I could assess my qualification through NARIC that could help to apply for post study work visa?

Please advise.

There is no mention of long resience in the new rules. I believe it will be still valid for time to come,

.

The link is to the general UK news section. Would you please reference which article ..?

We'd like to examine it to ensure there was no mistake.
