EU passport

Post by thebrad » Fri Apr 09, 2004 11:48 pm

My grandfather emigrated to the US when he was a boy from Poland. Is it possible for me to obtain an EU passport through his name and what would I need to do in order to receive this documentation?

Hi there,

Your grand father emigrated from Poland to USA when he was a boy. Your father or your mother can be American. In view of the US immigration law you can be American as the US citizenship is passed from parent to son/daughter through the green card. This is of course if you are not now American.

I suspect there is no correlation between the American immigration law and the European immigration laws.

In order to have EU passport, you may wish to have Poland Passport as Poland is joining EU countries. This depends on the immigration law in Poland.

I think the best course of action is to contact an immigration lawyer in Poland. Their fees will be much cheaper than their counterparts in the USA.

I searched the net and found legal firm in Warsaw, which might be able to help you.

I will send you the details in a private message as putting their name on this board is beyond the policy.

Good luck

response to EU passport

Post by thebrad » Sat Apr 10, 2004 1:39 am

My grandfather has became an American citizen many years ago. My mother was born in America and I was born in America. I travelled to Europe last year and was told I could possibly get a passport if my mom applied through my grandfather and I then applied through her. Is this true?

Hi there,

The answer is probably ‘yes’ but how would you be able to do it?

I have already told you it has to be done in Poland. The Home Office here in the UK will not act on behalf of the immigration authority in Poland.

You may wish to contact an immigration lawyer in Poland for the following reasons:

1-They know the immigration rules in Poland
2-They are able to communicate with you
3-They are of course able to communicate with the immigration authorities in Polish.
4-They may be able to save you or your mother going to Poland as they can have a power of attorney from the USA or elsewhere
5-They would be able to retrieve the documentation of your grand father.

If you wish to proceed I am sure it will not cost you a fortune.

Before you start though, you have to balance between the Polish Passport and American Passport in Europe regarding:
1-Travel
2-Residency
3-Work

Sometimes, there is a psychological aspect to going back to routes. This can be invaluable.

Good Luck

Here's a link to the citizenship page of Polish Embassy's web site.

From IND

6.68 The Act on Polish Citizenship of 15 February 1962 (Dz. U. No. 10, item 49 with later amendments) does not include any restrictions on account of race, nationality or religion in respect of the right to obtain Polish citizenship. [16d]

You may wish to balance the situation as advised above

Good luck
