I have got a good question.
In the application for Naturalization, it states if you don't pay tax via PAYE that you should submit your Self Assessment. However, if you take a salary via your limited company, you are subject to PAYE but it is possible to still not pay any TAX if you don't go above the NIC threshold. So my question is are they really talking about the self employed who are not subject to PAYE or do they mean even if you are subject to PAYE and do hit the threshold, then you should submit the Self Assessment???

I think that if you have filed a Self Assessment return, you should indeed forward the Self Assessment statement. After all the salary could well be a rather small proportion of the total income, so merely forwarding the P60 is not really proving anything.

That's true but my impression for Naturalization in regards to P60 or Self assessment was that it was a criteria of evaluation under good character, meaning you paid your taxes and NIC. And as such those who are self employed are not accounted for via PAYE and that's why Self assessment is requested. It's not about how much you made.

SYH, that is true, but for anyone filing a Self Assessment return, the Statement is better proof that the taxes have indeed been paid, as required.
