ILR/Naturalisation questions

I actually have two questions, one of them rather silly.

1. I was just granted ILR this morning at the PEO in Birmingham. My partner actually asked me this question, but when I am returning to Britain from overseas do I still have to go through the queue for foreign nationals?

2. I am bit confused about qualifying for naturalisation. Is it that you have to have been resident in the UK for 5 years or 6 years and one year of that must be with ILR? Next January I will have been here for 5 years and 5 months.

You still have to go through the foreign national queue.

What is the basis for your ILR?

My ILR is for an unmarried partner.

Then you must have been in the UK for 5 years, with 12 months clear on ILR. So, you can't apply for citizenship for 12 months.

If you marry, you can apply immediately.

I think that is right, if the (then) spouse is a British Citizen. But we have not been told that. Clearly the partner has settled status, but they could also be non-British, and for example, have ILR. In which case a wait until 5 years in the UK would be necessary.

Emma, congratulations on the ILR at the Birmingham PEO. That is where my wife got her ILR back in 2002.
