Naturalisation in Belgium after marriage

Post by Simthorn » Wed Jan 30, 2008 5:05 pm

Hello every one!
i have this question about acquiring Belgian Citizenship.
i am a non-EU national and i am marying my partner who is Belgian.
I know all about the documents we have to provide at the moment for our marriage.
apparently after 3 years of our marriage i can naturalise but there is no clear information on what documents i need to provide for my naturalisation after 3 years.
i would appreciate if any one who has naturalised in Belgium through marriage after the 3 years, would provide me with information on the process and the documents needed.

Marriage has had no effect on naturalisation eligibility in Belgium since 1985. Information seems to be very difficult to obtain but you could naturalise after 3 years of residence, however it would appear that you have to be in possession of permission to remain which is usually only given to people after living and working in Belgium for 5 years- however being married may well entitle you to such a permission to remain before 5 years based on marriage, I'm not sure though-

The permission to stay indefinitely will be granted after five years for people working in Belgium and after having this permission it would be possible to naturalise however i think this permission would be granted after 3 years if you marry a belgian national. I am not sure about the process for naturalisation in this country. there is no clear information on this issue. even the Belgian consulate is not able to provide any information on this. I would appreciate if any one who has been through this process would let me know about all the necessary paper work and how it works.
