what’s the fastest way to get a passport?

Post by wales » Fri Feb 01, 2008 8:38 pm

Hi all
I did receive the invitation for the ceremony last week while I am out of country through my solicitor. My solicitor book me for the ceremony on 15th Feb 2008.
My question; I need to travel again very shortly to attend a conference ….. what’s the fastest way to get a passport? Could I make a booking for the interview before I got the certificate? If yes could any one please advice me which number should I call from abroad?

Do you need to obtain a British passport quickly? Would it be a problem to travel on your other passport? Or would that you mean you would need a visa?

In other words, why not delay getting your British passport until after you return from the conference?

The interview process is still being rolled out across the country. You may or may not be called to an interview but I don't think there is anything you can do before you get your naturalisation certificate in your hands and apply for the passport.

Even then, the passport office may not know if you're going to be called for an interview till 1-2 weeks after submitting the application.

Thanks John and Paulp
I need to come back to attend the ceremony, but can I travel with my old passport (non-British)? or I have to wait till I get the British passport?

You are not a British citizen until you have your citizenship ceremony so you need to use your existing passport + ILR.

Even after your Citizenship Ceremony, just continue to use your other passport, until you eventually do get a British one.

After all, there is no compulsion for a British Citizen to have a British passport.
