New Immigration Policy - India

Post by tvn_ramesh » Wed Feb 06, 2008 5:33 pm

Hello Senior Members of the Forum:

Can you please elaborate on the new "TOUGH" immigration policy to come into force in UK...

And how it will effect the foreign nationals currently working in britain?

=================Source TOI website =====================

==============================================
A new "tough" immigration policy will come into force in UK from February 29, a move that will affect the fate of thousands of Indians settled in that country and those intending to travel there.

The Indians intending to travel to UK will have to qualify under the point-based system that will be operational in this country from April one.

"The regulations will start coming into force from February 29 when any highly-skilled foreign nationals currently working in Britain who want to extend their stay will need to apply under the new system," the British Home Office announcement said.

British Minister of State for Immigration Liam Byrne told reporters here that the new policy is "a fine but tough system" to ensure that unwanted outsiders do not enter UK and settle there.

"The regulations will start coming into force from February 29 when any highly-skilled foreign nationals currently working in Britain who want to extend their stay will need to apply under the new system," the British Home Office announcement said.

Thats debatable :lol:

I have got no objections to that i was just suggesting as I thought you will get more replies there.

*I could be wrong.

Personally on the subject i dont think it will change drastically and it will take time to implement those changes and put those controls in place.

lets wait for an more senior member to comment

.

The quote taken from the article has an interesting slant on it. It seems to imply that Indians will be subject to different rules than the rest of the world.

The policies coming into effect are a bit tougher for everyone. In some categories & situations, some individuals will have greater difficulties than under previous rules.

Overall, these rules-adjustments are not very radical. They are more a fine-tuning based upon experiences of the past ten years or so, and the changing needs of the UK & the EU economies.

Anyway, those are all debatable points and the source of a LOT of discussion and news.

What is real is that the Tier 1 portion of the new schemes will begin from 29 February, with transitional policies coming into effect during March.

The other Tiers will come into effect during the remainder of the year (excepting Tier 3, covering unskilled workers, which is suspended indefinitely).

I recommend searching through some of the other topics for plenty of discussion on the "toughness" of the new rules. Cases are being made for both sides.

One thing I keep in mind as these rules change is that th e"toughness" is largely a response to being "too soft" in some areas. And some people abused the immigration system.

Now we all pay the price as the government tries to close those loopholes.

I also suggest trying not to read too much into the race angle, as this particular article pushed a bit. One thing is clear: these new rules are being developed and applied far more even-handedly than most policies in the past.

They are equally "tough" for everyone.

And, I am moving it from "Jobs" to "General UK" since it really covers the entire new Brit immigration system.
