Schengen Visa Refused - Spanish Embassy London - Please help

Post by feedthespot » Thu Feb 14, 2008 11:12 pm

My fiancee and I are have plans to go to Lanzarote end of April. We've purchased the tickets and put the paperwork together to get the schengen visa for him (Im american - he's turkish).

He went to the spanish embassy on appointment and gave them the papers at which point they looked through the docs and said to come back in two weeks to pick up the passport.

Today he went to the consulate to pick everything up and was only given his passport and refused the visa. The guy there couldn't tell him why and gave hinm a letter in spanish. But as I understand it didn't say why he was rejected. It apparently also says that he must reapply within two weeks (29 February). On top of that, they kept all his original paperwork. When he asked for it back, they said that they dont keep that in this office and couldn't help him.

what should we do. How do we reapply if we dont know whats wrong? Do we have to wait for another appointmebnt because that could be over two weeks. And what will happen. Will they really reject him if we have everything booked?

Im really frustrated as this comes as we're supposed to apply for a COA. The paperwork for that is changing in the next week and Im just worried that the COA will become even more expensive or difficult to get.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I can't speculate why he wasn't granted the visa, but the Spanish embassy does warn people not to book tickets or accommodation before being granted the visa in case the visa is declined.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Which country do you both currently reside? Is he working? Has he ever had a Schengen visa before? Have you tried seeing what the requirements are from other Schengen embassies?

Both must be in UK if they are applying for CoA. Students, HSMP, who knows, another case of not enough info.

Ive had to obtain two shengen visas in my life thus far. One for Spain, and one for Belgium. I will shortly need to obtain another for Spain.
In both of my cases, I phoned the consulate ahead of time and told them my situation and asked exactly what documents I would need for the visa (even though they are outlined on the website but that means nothing....these consulates/embassies handle things on a case by case basis and with the spanish, they will profile people. Not to me, but Ive seen them do it to other people I know).
I took the consulate person's name in case what I handed in wasnt sufficient...therefore giving me some kind of a leg to stand on.

My guess is that you just havent provided enough information to them or the incorrect information. The first time I applied for a shengen visa in spain they didnt give it to me right away because the medical clearance document wasnt on the proper letter head of my doctor.
You have got to be extremely thorough and Im guessing you havent been.
If you can get any kind of a stamp on things, do it. The Spanish authorities love their stamps.

It's irrelevant what the requirements are at other Schengen embassies. If they are going to Spain, they have to get their Schengen visa from the Spanish embassy.

This is correct. I think the requirments for the visa between each Shengen country might also be slightly different. You just never know. It would appear to be all rather systematized but its hardly the case.

That is not always the case. You can apply to the embassy of the Schengen country you will enter first - e.g. France, and then travel to Spain, thus bypassing the more arsey Spanish embassy requirements.

Although in this case I concede it won't be of use to them if they're going to Lanzarote.

No no.. they are going to Lanzarote, so they might have to go to Lanzorate(tic) Embassy
In the application form put Spain and not Lanzarote! The spanish embassy staff might see it better!! just a thought :?
