Hello,
I am a U.S. citizen looking into the possibility of Working Holiday Authorization for Ireland. I have read over the requirements; however, I still am unsure if the program that I want to enroll in will make me eligible for WHA upon completion.
I completed my bachelor's degree 3 years ago, so that unfortunately will not help me as U.S. citizens applying for this visa need to currently be enrolled or have just completed post secondary education within the past 12 months. For quite some time now though I have been interested in earning CELTA Certification. I am looking into a CELTA program at IH Dublin as well as several others.
Although this is only a one month program, it certainly falls under the definition of post secondary and a certificate is earned upon completion. The course is also through Cambridge University; a major post secondary institution.
Just curious to hear the opinions of others on whether this program would help me to gain WHA or if anyone else here has had success getting a WHA in this way. This is the criteria that I have found listed on Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs website:
The US-Ireland Working Holiday Agreement is open to:
U.S. citizens
No age restrictions
Applicants must be either enrolled in postsecondary education or have graduated from it in the last 12 months.
The last qualification is the most important requirement since there's no age restrictions. Eligible candidates must apply in-person or by mail at the Embassy of Ireland in Washington or the Consulates General of Ireland in Boston, Chicago, New York or San Francisco. You'll be asked for proof of your academic status as well as sufficient funds: either EU1,500 (or equivalent) plus a return travel ticket or EU3,000. It costs EU250 to apply for this visa, plus a $13 USD mailing fee if applicable.
