Marrying a Turkish citizen and related visa information

Post by Brownmoses » Sun Feb 17, 2008 12:56 pm

I'm currently planning to marry my Turkish partner of 3 years in August and I'm a little overwhelmed by the amount of information I've come across. A bit of info about us first:
- She has worked in the UK for 2 years until the middle of 2007 as an Au Pair on an Au pairs visa and stayed for the length of the visa.
- She speaks fluent English and as a Turkish degree in computer programming and 2 years of business studies.
- We plan to marry in Turkey and live in the UK.

I'm wondering what steps I have to take to arrange everything so once we are married she can move to England with me and start working. I'd appreciate any help as I'm really lost.

Thanks for the help, its been very useful. So if we marrying in Turkey could she come to England immediatly after the wedding and apply for the marriage visa in England? Would that involve having a fianance visa?

No, if you marry in Turkey, then she will have to apply for a "spouse visa" in Turkey and wait till it is granted before coming to the UK.

The alternative is to get a fiance visa in Turkey, bring her to the UK, marry and then apply in-country for a spouse visa. It will be a tad more expensive.
