Travelling to the UK on a second passport

Post by amh21 » Mon Jun 12, 2017 10:00 am

Hi All,

Hoping someone can provide some clarification for me:

My girlfriend is a US citizen and has applied for a settlement visa using the priority service - her application has been in since early May. The process is taking an incredibly long time and she urgently needs to travel to the UK. US citizens can apply for a second passport (completely different passport number) in situations such as these. My question is - could she travel to the UK (as a tourist) on her second US passport while her primary passport is with UKVI Sheffield being processed?

Any advice/ thoughts would be highly appreciated.

Thank you!

She is likely to be refused entry by the Immigration Officer due to her prior intention to settle with an outstanding application. She will find it a challenge to convince Border Control that she is a genuine visitor and that if her settlement visa application is refused, she won't overstay in the UK.

Thank you so much for getting back to me - that makes sense/ is what we were expecting to hear

Assume that return tickets + proof of employment in the USA wouldn't be acceptable proof that she is planning on leaving?

Not with the pending Spouse Settlement visa.

We've applied for a fiance visa and not a spouse visa (with a plan to switch to spouse visa after we marry) - in your opinion would that make a difference?

No difference. A fiance visa is still within the settlement category.
