i am a student in the UK. and i have a schengin visa for a year form Italy, however. my travel plans have changed. and i will be going to paris first. will i get into trouble? and what should i do in order not to get into trouble :S..

If you intend to apply at the italian embassy again in future you will need to make sure you spend more time in Italy than anywhere else. Keep receipts and tickets etc.

Also, it will look much better if you actually enter the country you obtained your Schengen visa for FIRST. And, spent more than one or two days there before jumping to another country for a month or three.

People who obtain a Schengen from one embassy and then enter another country first tend to experience ... difficulties. Remember, the Schengen database is a permanent record of your travels throughout the EU.

If you enter Italy first, and it is documented, there are few border controls to document the exact dates of crossing. But other activities, such as accessing your bank, hotel reservations, use of your credit card will all become part of your permanent profile and will document various dates you were in various locations.

that is true but when i went to zante (greece) with a french issues schengen visa nothing was recorded the IO had to go and look for a stamp as he did not have one same thing when i departed from same airport

I should probably say "can all become a part of your record."

For normal people, I don't think that (yet) it all becomes automatically. But all electronic records can be accessed by law enforcement. That is part of what the Schengen accord is all about ... enhanced data gathering and cooperation in making it available between countries.

I should also point out that I missed mentioning that mobile phone calls & SMS's also register where a person makes calls from. Or, at least puts the burden on them to prove they weren't using their mobile SIMM chip where & when records pinpoint their use.

How information about what people did is gathered before 2008 is very different from the era we are moving into.

I was careful in my wording ... 'misuse' of a Schengen does not automatically cause problems for a person. BUT, any evidence that is noticed that a person might have been using it 'incorrectly' can be the basis for any government to deny future visas (of any types), or otherwise make the process more difficult.

As we are all well aware from hundreds of stories on this board alone, there are many unequal interpretations and applications of visa & immigration laws throughout the world, and Europe and the Schengen area are no exceptions.

Use this visa with caution ... all information collected about people that use it is stored in a huge database that can be accessed by all Schengen countries, and some or all of it can be shared with many countries outside of the Schengen.

I have plans to go to Spain and need visa for my non-EU wife
As I am german it is easy to go to the Geman embassy and get a Schengen Visa quick.

Will I have problems in Spain.

Right now France and Netherlands have the following message:
"The spouse of a national of one of the Schengen countries should apply at the Embassy of his/her spouse's nationality. For example, the spouse of a Portuguese national should appy at the Portuguese Embassy even if the destination is another Schengen country."
But at the German Embassy they say no, the Spanish said the same but after I told them about the answer form German Embassy they ask me to apply then at Spanish Embassy

Any ideas???
Just want to avoid problems with immigration Officer when traveling to Spain.

Its ok to visit Paris first but make sure you spend more time in Italy than in France..
