Newbie Business Visit Fundamentals

Post by twoosh » Sat Feb 12, 2005 9:17 am

Hi everyone

I am an IT guy; and my company is sending me to a Client's place on a business visit, which is expected to last some 2.5-3 months. I have 3 questions for you:

1. When I go for the visa interview, should I tell them the correct timeframe? Or since ~3 months is somewhat a longish stay and a denial of a business visit visa is possible, should I tell them a reduced duration of my visit?

2. Ditto for the questions that I face at the entry point at Heathrow

3. If my visit is extended and say it takes me some 4-5 months to come back, would it be a breach of visa rules, since I said ~3 months at this time? Do I need to give information to any local authorities if my duration is being extended (to a max of 6 months)?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first time for a UK visa, so I want to take your assistance before even applying for the same.

Thanks

John

twoosh, there are other people much better able to answer your questions than me, but I think they would welcome knowing ........ what country's passport will you be travelling on?

Thanks for pointing that out, John.

I have an Indian passport.

If you have valid and documented business reasons to remain in the UK for over 3 months, I don't think it's a problem, and there is no sense to play games. I think it starts being a problem if you want to spend more than 6 months in a "visitor" capacity. If you don't tell the correct timeframes at Heathrow, theoretically you can punish yourself by getting a leave to enter for less time.

Thanks for the guidance.

But is the 'leave to enter' being given for less time a frequent thing at POE?

While I do not foresee that it would take me more than 3 months, once I am there, it MIGHT be possible that the duration is extended, but remains well below the 6 month period. Should I tell this clearly at the POE?

Thanks in advance.

I would state the maximum time required, as long as it's within the rules...
