Yemeni national's UK immigration status?

Post by gollywood » Sat Mar 08, 2008 4:26 am

HI

Just a query passed onto to me from a friend.

He has a cousin (approx 20 years old) who was born in the UK to Yemeni parents. She lived here for approx. 5 years before returning back to Yemen with her parents.

One or both her parents might have been born at a time when Yemen was under British rule.

Just wanted some info on this to pass onto my friend, whose cousin was planning on visiting the UK, but unsure of her potential status here.

(I'll pass on any replies to him or any requests for further details).

Thanks

What were her parents' UK immigration status at the time of her birth?

If neither parents were settled at the time of her birth, then, unfortunately, she would have no automatic claim to British citizenship. She would have to qualify under the Immigration rules.

How can they check or find out whether or not her parents were entitled to any British citizenship as Yemeni might have been a territory 'ruled' by Britain?
