What is the Impact of Divorce Proceeding on Visa application

I am the British wife of Husband who is currently waiting on his Visa application for ILR to be processed. He was and overstayer for over 7 years. We have been married for 5 years. His application is still in the HO for nearly 3 years. We have pursued through writing letters, local MP etc, with no success.

On top of all that our relationship has reached the point where I am considering filing for divorce. Regardless of the circumstances behind the reason, Iwill be the one petitioning for the divorce. However I dont want him to lose his possible ILR, if it comes through. I still believe he deserves the right to get it, as we have kids he's a god father. However I still want to go through with it.

Please could someone advise me what the implications the divorce will have on his application. Will it get cancelled or can he still get the ILR based upon his kids (three -uk born) between ages 10-2
