RESIDENCE PERMIT vs WORK PERMIT

Post by Hkalian » Mon Mar 10, 2008 11:22 am

Hi there,

I recently moved companies and had to get the new company to re-apply for my work permit. The application was successful and i notice i now have a residence permit.

What is the difference btw this and the std work permit i had before?

Hope you can help.

thanks,

The Immigration Employment Document (IED) that the employer applies to the BIA seeking approval is termed as work permt. The visa (leave to remain) issued against the IED in your passport is termed as a resident permit.

No difference on living/working conditions. You got residence permit because your work permit VISA was applied while you were in UK. So effectively you are still bound by work permit based immigration rules only difference on your work permit is new employer and revised duration.
