reenter Spain after a 6 month student visa

Post by mrapricot » Mon Mar 17, 2008 1:49 pm

I am a US citizen and have a 6 month student visa for Spain. It will expire on 15 Apr, and I plan to marry with my Spanish girlfriend in the US, but it would really be better for us to do it in May. As there are a few weeks between 15 Apr and May, can I take a day or so trip outside of the EU and return as a tourist for those 3 or so weeks? Would Spanish immigration give me a problem? If I had a flight reservation to the US in May to show them would I have a better chance?

You could try requesting a months extension on your student visa, or try applying for a residency permit before your visa expires which will give you permission to stay in Spain while it's being processed.
You can also ask in a gestoria, they don't usually charge anything unless they have to process documents.
