What can I do about my Working Holidaymaker Permit

Post by bethlee77 » Thu Mar 20, 2008 5:04 pm

Hello everyone.

I am currently in a working holidaymaker permit. I came over to the UK as a teacher in September 2007 but couldn't get any teaching work. So, i'm working for the NHS as a PA. I have been looking at what I can switch my WHM into after a year of working which will be December 2008 but it doesn't look like I am eligible to switch into a Work Permit because the job I have is not on the shortage occupation list. I am getting married March 2009 to a UK citizen but have 4 months between the time i finish my one year of work and the time I get married. Does anyone have any advice on what paths I can take?

Thank you in advance.

Beth,
I think you need to very careful here, because your have limits on how many hours you may work on a WHV.

I'm also a little confussed because you said you came over as a teacher, but why are your you on a WHV in that case?
Quick solution is to return to your home country and get married there and then apply for a spouse visa.

I am on a working holidaymaker therefore i can only work one of the two years bc i'm supposed to be "travelling" the rest of the time.

I didn't have a job as a teacher coming over so there were no other options than a Working holidaymaker. That's why i did what i did.

We are getting married in Canada, in Toronto March 2009 but need something from December until March. How about a fiancee visa? (except I can't work)

I guess we can just go to the city hall and get married and then apply as a spousal if that's allowed but we are going to speak to an immigration lawyer hopefully next week.

If you're getting married in Canada, then you won't be given a fiancee visa for the UK (you can't work on a fiancee visa anyway). There are no other options for you to continue working, it seems...

Beth
It seems to me that you can remain in the UK until Sept 2009. You just have to stop working by sept 2008.
You probably have holiday accrued so you could stretch out the work for another month.
