Police RE-registration required after student visa renewal?

Post by Directive/2004/38/EC » Thu Mar 20, 2008 11:29 am

A friend has had her student visa renewed. She is very happy!

Is she required to go again to the Overseas Visitors Registration Office with new photos and again pay £34? Her residence address has not changed.

It looks like renewals require another trip to the police, but there is no fee. http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/internationa ... gistration

If a foreign national is required to have a police registration document, they are required to register within 7 days any change of work, college, home address, change in immigration status and visa extensions.

However they only need to do this at their local police station and their is no further charge.

My brazilian girlfriend has made several trips to the local police station for this. Its quite funny when we go because the police dont usually know what to do and have to phone up for advice how to deal with the document.

We have also found that its quite difficult to register some changes wihtin 7 days beacuse for example, a change in job requires a copy of your contract and you dont normally get that from an employer for several weeks.
