Naturalisation for spouse of new British citizen

Post by Hedgehog » Fri Mar 21, 2008 2:36 pm

I'm an Australian with Right of Abode and will be applying for British citizenship this summer after having fulfilled the 5 years residence requirement. My husband has had ILR status for the past 2 years and has lived in the UK for 4 years. My question is: once I become a UK citizen, can he apply for naturalisation on the basis of marriage to a UK citizen (since he has already lived here for 4 years), or would he have to wait until the full 5 years is up before he can apply? If anyone knows the answer to this or has any thoughts on it, I'd be very interested to know. Thanks.

He can apply as soon as you are a British citizen.
