application fee

Post by noush » Fri Mar 21, 2008 12:52 pm

Hi was just wondering if it was a good sign that the HO have debited my card with the postal fee application.

If the application was invalid surely they would not take the money right?

their notes say that if the application is invalid they "will return your papers together with your fee".

is that right? Is it a good sign?

Means nothing really - just that you not done anything obvious like not included your passport or filled the form in totally wrongly.

I would imagine now they've got your money they can allocate it to a caseworker for the real work.

Debiting your account doesn't mean anything. It simply means they will look at your application and get back to you with a decision.

noush, you posted the application to Durham. All they do there is ensure that payment has been made successfully, before passing all the papers off to a "real office" for processing.

Indeed, if payment is not processed successfully the papers will never get near a "real office" at all. Or put it another way, the staff in the various "real offices" can look at an application in the full knowledge that the application has been paid for.

So noush, the payment through your debit card merely means that you have successfully paid for the application .... no more, no less.

No, I think it merely means that the application has been paid for! No more, no less.

Well, it's "valid" in the sense that it has been validly made. It doesn't guarantee a successful outcome, however. But on the bright side, at least you know that it hasn't got lost somewhere in the system and that, to some extent at least, it is being worked on.

All the best with it! :D
