Lawyer's claiming Home Office Delays

Post by stitch1111 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 10:19 am

I've hired a lawyer to file my work permit extension, and he's been hemming and hawing about how delays at the Home Office are gumming up the works. My WP expires at the beginning of May, and he claims he filed the application in mid-February. The wrinkle is that I need my passport back by April 2 for a trip I have to take. I'll have a couple of weeks following my return to get the WP endorsed, but I was really hoping to avoid last-minute dramatics. My lawyer's claiming that the Home Office is experiencing the worst delays in 10 years. I suspect he filed the application late, and is hoping to cover his gaff by making me pay the 150 pound expediting charge, which will allow me to have my WP endorsed in one day. Bearing this in mind, I was wondering whether or not anyone else has experienced delays in the Home Office's processing of WP extensions. It's supposedly been five weeks, and my lawyer says he has yet to receive a decision. Seems like a long time to me.
