UK indefinite leave to remain visa query

Post by dm1501 » Sun Mar 30, 2008 11:19 pm

Hi

I have an indefinite leave to remain visa for the UK - I am a Filipino national. Do I have to get a visa for a vacation to the Cayman Islands? If I do need a visa, what type do I need?

Also, for future reference what will be the best visa for me to travel in Europe until I get my British nationality?

Thanks in advance

Hi Vinny

Thanks for the link - very useful.

However, I am a bot confused. According to the link, I don't need a visa to go to the Caymans. I tried searching for Portugal and it said I also didn't need a visa. But when I went there on holiday 2 summers ago, I did need a visa.

* my Philipino passport has an indefinite leave to remain stamp in it
* I've not done my citizenship test yet
* I've got a valid & full UK driving license to act as an additional form of photographic ID

Obviously it makes sense for me to do my British Citizenship test, but who should I contact re: the visa for the Caymans? The Home Office? What rights do I have this ILR stamp in my passport - do I still need a visa to travel anywhere in the EU?

Cheers

If you are travelling as a Filipino citizen, then you would need a visa to many, if not all of the EU countries, such as Germany, Spain, or Italy. I'm sure Filipinos need a visa for Portugal also. Your ILR stamp isn't useful for travel purposes (except for Switzerland, where you don't need a visa).

Not sure about Caymans, though.
