passport validity period less than intended visa period

Post by navigator121 » Wed Apr 02, 2008 3:57 am

Hi there,

I am applying for a UK spouse visa, which is normally issued for two years. My passport expires in one year and four months. This means, the visa if issued will extend beyond my passport's expiry date. Do I need to renew my passport or could I use the one I have currently?

any answers are greatly appreciated... I have really swept the web and googled up and down and could not find an anwer.

Thanks

It's probably best to renew your passport before you apply, but if you do not want to wait the period it takes for your new passport to arrive before you submit your application then, you can use your existing passport and then get the visa transferred to a new renewed passport. There is a charge though for the transfer of a visa from one passport to the other.

actually, you're not required to have it transferred to your new passport. just bring your old passport every time.

You don't need to transfer this into the new ppt. When you enter the UK the next time the IO will stamp the new ppt stating that you have existing leave in a previous ppt.
